Description

Subaltern Games creates political art games that model social systems. They take existing game conventions such as the turn based strategy or the manager sim and deconstruct them to highlight the complicity of the player in a predatory role, while above all showing compassion for the collateral human suffering.

History

The Bronze Age

In the Bronze Age, the Hittites reigned supreme, though they were soon challenged by the Egyptians, under Pharaoh Rameses II.

The Modern Era

Following the Late Bronze Age Collapse, Seth Alter founded Subaltern Games. The studio's first project was Neocolonialism, a game about extracting as much wealth from the world as possible. The second game, No Pineapple Left Behind, was about dehumanizing middle school students into tropical fruit, and was based on Seth's brief experience as a teacher. Subaltern Games' third project, Traitor Nightly, is an experiment in narrative fiction, set in a Byzantine-inspired world.
